OPPORTUNITIES FOR

EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES

Artspace accepts proposals for solo exhibitions, installations, and small group exhibitions in the following galleries at our main site and at our offsite exhibition space, The Lot. Please see the floor plan for the shape of each gallery.

Gallery 2
Gallery 2 is the Artspace Lounge. This space boasts one 12x10’ street-facing wall at the corner of our storefront building. The open window spaces provide interesting presentation opportunities for artists. Café tables and chairs complement lounge furniture, and provide comfortable viewing of art installations.

Gallery 3
Gallery 3 is a small gallery with two 12x10’ facing walls. These walls are perpendicular to the street-front windows and the interior of the main gallery space. This gallery is the perfect space for artists seeking a small solo show opportunity.

Gallery 4
Gallery 4 is a gallery with two facing walls, 12x10’ and 17x10’. These walls are perpendicular to the street-front windows and the interior of the main gallery space. The roughly 400 square foot space is ideal for sculpture and installations.

Gallery 5
Gallery 5 is a small, experimental gallery space, which can be used for solo or collaborative installations. Preference will be given to artists who will use the space to create site-specific work and/or need a space for film/video installations. The dimensions of the space are: 16x18’ with a storefront style window (with an optional curtain) 16’ side and an entrance (with an optional curtain, but no door) on the opposite wall.

Gallery 6
Artspace offers artists a unique chance to create site-specific
installations or murals in one or both of the two public restrooms. Each space is a one-person restroom, and provides an opportunity to create truly immersive installations that a viewer experiences alone, as in past projects that have included video, surround sound, and hanging material from the ceiling. One space is 12x7’ and wheelchair accessible; the other is 7x8.5’.

Gallery 7
Gallery 7 is a medium sized gallery with two 14x9’ walls, and roughly 250 square feet of interior space. It is available for solo or small group exhibitions, new media installations or video
projections.

The Lot
The Lot, on lower Chapel Street between Church and Orange Streets, was an abandoned parcel of land where a building once stood. In 1999, Artspace began activating the space with
temporary displays of public art and design. In 2005, Artspace worked with a landscape design team, artists, designers, the community, and the city of New Haven to develop the Lot as a long-term exhibition space, including a series of green spaces, pathways, and benches, and a new bus shelter. The space was opened in July 2005 and Artspace is now accepting proposals for new outdoor installations and projects for rotating exhibitions.
