Information for Artists
We warmly welcome all the artists who have signed up to open their studio doors during October 2012 for New Haven's fifteenth annual City-Wide Open Studios. The registration deadline was September 1. If you missed it, please join us as a visitor this year and open your studio next year! This Crystal Anniversary edition of the festival will take place over three consecutive weekends in October and will mobilize audiences to come meet you and see your work. The Passport Weekend (October 6/7) invites the public into private studios throughout New Haven, West Haven, North Haven, and Hamden. The Erector Square Weekend (October 13/14) showcases artists based in that single Fair Haven locale; and the Alternative Space Weekend (October 20/21) if for artists who don't have New Haven-area studios or are interested in creating a site-specific installation. Each artist participating in the weekend events will display one representative work in the central exhibition at Artspace (Oct. 5-22). It will open on Friday, Oct 5 with festivities throughout the Ninth Square, into the night. The exhibition will help visitors find your studio, as will the CWOS website, a printed guide, and guided tours. What's new this year? For our Crystal Anniversary, Artspace is introducing an optional thematic thread: crystals! We've also changed the order of the weekends so that media attention surrounding the first weekend can benefit the private studios, the hidden gems of the festival. We are also pleased to announce that artist JP Culligan, whom you may know from Kehler-Lidell Gallery and Real Art Ways, is joining the Artspace staff to help produce the festival. He's your contact person for all CWOS questions: JP [at] artspacenh.org. We hope you're looking forward to the event as much as we are! Thank you for helping us reach and celebrate the milestone of our fifteenth year of CWOS. P.S. We found these group photo from earlier CWOS events and wanted to share the memories with you. Can you spot yourself?
