Artist Statement
In the past year, I've mostly returned to observation of the landscape around me, although always with an eye to transformation. I spent several spring mornings painting in the beautiful wetlands area of the Quinnipiac that is hidden by North Haven's industrial area. It was a hidden paradise of egrets' nests and tall marsh grass just a few dozen feet away from the gravel and cement plant that is visible to the driver on the road. Other paintings came from the blooms in the flowerbeds or the skunk cabbage in the creek in my backyard or the many landscapes I walked, drove, or biked through during the year.
