Artist Statement
My work evolves around duality since the mid 1990`s when I lived and studied in Germany and The Netherlands.
I usually choose the traditional medium Oil on canvas because I prefer the sensuality of paint over the more contemporary mediums.
But I also transfer my paintings into paper-Lithography using photographs.
Most of my work consists of two paintings corresponding with each other.
Simplistic figures are surrounded by undefined or abstract spaces without illusionistic details.
Some “pairs” seem to be the same person but at a different age/time or state of mind.
Others are male/female couples addressing gender assignments.
My work is very reduced and subtle, reflections of everyday life. I show small moments like breathing, sharing a word with a stranger, dealing with pain or the need to be young.
My recent "upside-down"-series is about gaining a new perspective, overcoming the fear of loosing control and finding the right balance. That I intend not just literally.
