Artist Statement
For the past five years, my work has focused on collage and the medium that surrounds it. I often incorporate images from old children's books, found objects, and 1950's era Boy's Life magazines. Part of the reason for this is that I want to reflect on and comment on the current themes that affect us today with a time that I feel led to it; that being the 50's era of patriotism and McCarthy politics leading to 60's rebellion and 70's drug culture….then the cycle back to conservatism and the “Me Decade”…..back to an era of protest in the 90's to, finally, current day where all these elements interact and quarrel. My more narrative collages are often layered on stock market quote backgrounds to add perspective depth to the piece as well as highlight my own personal themes of anger with the housing market and a search for one's place in this country.
